Must-See Sights in Port Orange, FL

Port Orange is a city in Volusia County, Florida that has a variety of sights to see.

Once known for its citrus, the Port Orange of today is a lovely place to live in and is one of the least expensive cities in the US. If you happen to be in Port Orange and you don’t want to miss some of its must-see spots, we are here to help! If you love long walks in nature, enjoy history-rich sites, or you simply want to spend some quality time with your family, Port Orange has a lot to offer. Here are some of the spots you don’t want to miss.

Dunlawton Sugar Mill Gardens are botanical gardens dating from the 19th century. Dunlawton Sugar Mill Plantation’s history began before Florida became a state in 1845. It was a tourist site as early as 1939, and it was mistakenly labeled as the ruins of an old Spanish mission from the 1600s. In 1985, Martin Wittbold, a local nurseryman, formed the Botanical Gardens of Volusia, Inc. They leased the mill property from the county, and breathed new life into the Dunlawton Sugar Mill Gardens.

Today, their mission is to teach local gardeners about the plants that can grow in this area and to create a beautiful place for visitors to enjoy while exploring the mill ruins. You will be able to see many plant collections, including azaleas, camellias, ivies, magnolias, native plants, palms, and succulents. Visitors can also explore an Asian garden, an herb garden shaped like Florida, and tropical collections.

Another natural beauty you don’t want to miss is the Spruce Creek Park. This park has a 536-foot boardwalk and over three miles of nature trails. You can walk on the trails to reach a 15-foot observation tower, which overlooks the marsh area near Spruce Creek. The trails also continue to Rose Bay. In the park you’ll find a picnicking area, a playground, camping area, and a canoe launch so you can spend the entire day exploring.

You also have to see the beautiful Riverwalk park! The Riverwalk Park has two parts, one on each side of the Riverside Pavilion by the Halifax River. The north part has a place to launch kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards, a boardwalk, places to fish, a trail, a place to buy snacks, and restrooms. You can also rent paddle equipment from Sandy Point Progressive Sports.

The south part has a splash pad, playground, lawn for events, more places to buy snacks, restrooms, a place to walk by the river, a stage for shows, and places to eat. It’s a great place to enjoy nature and have fun!

Once you’re done with the great outdoors, learn about the city’s intimate history at its many sites like Port Orange Memorial Park or Gamble Place Historic District, or tour through its vibrant art scene via its many public art facilities.

Don’t forget to visit the other must-see sites like The Pavilion at Port Orange or Ponce Inlet Lighthouse & Museum.
